PQYSA SPRING SOCCER RULES

FIFA RULES APPLY IF NOT MODIFIED BELOW.

1. NUMBER OF PLAYERS: All games are played 4 v 4, unless both coaches agree prior to the start of the game to play 3 v 3 due to a shortage of players. Once the game has started the number of players on the field must be maintained.

2. TEAM UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT: All players must wear the team shirts during play. All players must wear shinguards and cleats, and they must be worn under the socks so no portion of the shinguard is showing. The league will provide game balls for each game.

3. FIELD DIMENSIONS: Field size will vary from 60’ x 90’ to 90’ x 150’ depending on the age group of the players. All goals are 9 feet long and 4 feet high.

4. GOAL ARCH: No player may touch the ball within the goal arch, however any player may move through the goal arch. Any part of the ball or player’s body on the line is considered in the goal arch; the player is an extension of the arch. If a defender touches the ball in the goal arch, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If a defender OR the ball is in the arch and contact is made, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal arch, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. If the ball comes to a complete stop in the goal arch, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.

5. GAME DURATION: The game shall consist of two 25 minute halves separated by a five minute halftime period except for U8 and below which will consist of 20 minute halves. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie.

6. THERE ARE NO PRACTICES, BUT TEAMS MAY WARM-UP AND DISCUSS STRATEGIES PRIOR TO THE GAME AND AT HALF-TIME.

7. THERE ARE NO OFFSIDE.

8. Goals must be scored from the offensive half of the field. Goals shot from the defensive half are not allowed and the restart is a goal kick by the defensive team.

9. THERE ARE NO GOALIES, SO NO PLAYER MAY USE THEIR HANDS WHILE THE BALL IS IN PLAY.

10. FIVE YARD RULE: In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player’s goal area is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.

          11. KICK-INS: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of throw-ins.

12. INDIRECT KICKS: All dead ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks, and kick-offs) are indirect with the exception of corner and penalty kicks. Once the referee indicates where a free kick is to be taken, a player may immediately put the ball into play, but must put the ball into play within 5 seconds after the ball is placed in position. A possession change will occur if the free kick is not taken in a timely manner.

          13. GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point on the end line.

          14. KICK-OFFS: May be taken in any direction.

15. PENALTY KICKS: Shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction. It is a direct kick taken from the middle of the half-field line with all players behind the half-field line. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick. Penalty kicks are not live balls. Exception: Division 7 penalty kicks will be taken half way between half-field line and goal.

          16. SUBSTITUTING:

        1. Each player must play at least ˝ of the game.

               2. Players may be substituted at any time during the game. The player leaving the field must exit at or near the midfield line and be completely off of the field before the replacement player can go on.

         17. COACHING: Coaches must stay within 10 yards of half-field line and off the playing field during the game. No coaching from the field or Goal lines.
